Update from Lazonby swimming
pool 4th September 2011
Having had some problems with the river pump
last week, that were fixed, the pool was up
to a toasty 27°C today! Good effort from
the old river-source heat pump! However, the
equipment is now suffering old age, and it will
probably be pensioned off very shortly. It first
operated for the 1982 season, soit has now completed
30 years service heating this community pool
over the summer months. That is remarkable service
from a purpose-manufactured system.
Askham (air-source)
During the 2011 season some new air-source
heat pumps were installed. These are mass-produced
production models, and have a larger heating
capacity than the original equipment, and I
believe that the pool has been kept at a lovely
warm temperature - attracting many visitors
Greystoke (air-source)
Unfortunately, this systeml has also been struggling
this year. The compressor windings failed during
August 2011,so this poor old girl didn't quite
manage 30 years.
What to do with some old antique heat pumps?
-anyone out there with a museum?

Penrith, Cumbria
In 1982, John Cantor, with help from his friends, designed,
manufactured and installed two community swimming
pool heat pump systems. One at Lazonby and the
other at Greystoke. 1 year later he installed
another at Askham. These installations are still
in use in 2009, and they have saved significant
amounts of CO2 over the past 29 years.
